Dancing Crab has finally come to Jakarta! For those who love crab and seafood dishes and ready to get messy, you guys should not miss this Louisiana-style seafood restaurant!
After gaining much success in Singapore and Tokyo, Dancing Crab is now expanding to Indonesia market. Dancing Crab has opened its first outlet in Jakarta at Lotte Shopping Avenue. Taking the place which previously was the place of Modern Asian Dinner (MAD) beside XXI, Dancing Crab really means the business with a huge space of restaurant!
So, I was honored to get a privilege to attend the grand opening of Dancing Crab's first branch in Jakarta a couple of weeks ago along with fellow foodies. We all were warmly greeted and welcomed by the owner of Dancing Crab Jakarta, Mr. Norman Hartono. On that occasion, he expressed his desire to bring the spirit of Louisiana seafood dining to Jakarta by opening Dancing Crab here.

And oh, people who are dining here, are 'obliged' to get their hands and tongue 'dancing' because things will be messy no matter what!
Like I said before, this restaurant is investing a lot of space here, including the space facing outside of the mall where you can see Jl. Prof. Dr. Satrio directly through the windows. At noon, the light drops nicely through to window, which a favorite scene these kind of days. At night, I quite into the ambiance, the light isn't too bright or dim. Such a good time to enjoy dinner under the shades.
The restaurant here has a bar near the front entrance, then you can see chef in the kitchen next to the bar around the restaurant. The decoration here is just there, nothing too fancy whatsoever. They opt for black-painted wall with some typography and pictures of their menu. Pretty standard American decoration but not decreasing the coziness here at all.
What I like from Dancing Crab is the seafood are very fresh with finest quality. They are also tasty and 'finger-licking' thanks to the strong spices and herbs. Although the taste is more Italian, in my opinion, this Louisiana-style seafood is pretty okay.Here are the dishes that were served for the dinner :
Spicy Cajun Fries (IDR 55k)
"There's no such thing as too many starters", yes that's true. This Spicy Cajun Fries is one of many starters that I had in Dancing Crab. A basket full of fries seasoned with Spicy Cajun herbs. I just couldn't stop to pick the these tasty fries! :p
Garlic Soy Sauce Wings (IDR 55k)
Take a break from seafood for a while to enjoy these wings! :p An old-fashioned American wings glazed with garlic soy sauce, it's finger-lickin' good, right? The wings were also sprinkled with some sesame seed.
Crab Cakes (IDR 175k)
A big breaded juicy crab cakes. I love the fluffy texture of the cake. The taste from the crab meat was also quite well and I couldn't miss each bite with the dipping sauce. Each piece came in a quite big size but taking another piece of this delicious cake was irresistible.
Popcorn Shrimp Po'Boy Sandwich (IDR 98k)
When I saw this at the very first place, I just couldn't wait to try it! Fresh garlicky breads stuffed with shrimp meats and drizzled with mayo sauce. Love the generous, tasty and fresh shrimp filling. As for the breads, they were smooth and both are a perfect combination for me! And yes, another portion of fries to tease me yet again. Duh!
Garlic Noodles (IDR 45k)
This was another starter that I tried, another one with garlic. It looked a pretty plain, ordinary stirred noodles but the taste was actually not bad. The noodles were thin, more like angel-hair pasta and the well-seasoned. Garlic seasoning is one of my favorite, it's simple and gives a strong taste. And this Garlic Noodles from Dancing Crab did it too.
Fried Oysters (IDR 288k)
By the way, I don't eat oysters so I didn't touch this at all.
They oysters looked juicy and crunchy, served with the shells.
And yes, a cup of dipping sauce to make the oysters even more finger-licking.
Corn Bread (IDR 48k)
Tiny bites of warm baked corn bread. It gave a traditional market snacks feel to me. But I feel this is a bit inferior among the other snacks and a bit too simple.
Combo Bag #01 (Crab) (IDR 628k)
The main selling from Dancing Crab. The one that you have to try. The BOOM! A champion's dinner.
Each Combo Bag consists of :
1 Crab, 250g prawns, 250g clams, 250g mussels, potatoes, corns and sausages.
Yes, it has sausages as one of the complimentary dish! Normally, you wouldn't find any sausages in crab dishes, but this one is pretty different, they just don't hold back with the servings. Lots of meat here!
All the ingredients here were fresh, the crab meat was smooth and rich while the sausages were big and chunky. They all were well cooked, and the sauce really seeped into the meat.
For this crab combo, Dancing Crab provides 4 sauce options, Dancing Crab Signature. Herb Butter, Beurre Blanc and Zesty Garlic Butter.
Things were getting messy with the sauce! I couldn't stop sucking my sauce-drenched-fingers! haha.
I personally like the Beurre Blanc sauce, this sauce gives French touch to the crab. The addition of white wine took this sauce and the seafood to a different level.
Add an extra sauce and you'll be charged IDR 50k per sauce bowl.

Cold Seafood Platter (IDR 737k)
Now for the cold one. No, not the drinks. This is also one of the signature dish from Dancing Crab. A big saucepan with various types of seafood to indulge your seafood craving. One platter consists of 250g Alaskan King Crab, 4 Oysters, 250g prawns, 250g mussels. Again, a generous serving from Dancing Crab. All the seafood were fresh and looked great. Unfortunately, there was nothing too special about the dish except its grand display. But hey, it's good for sharing :).
And for the drinks, Dancing Crab also provides various type of drinks, including lemonade, fresh juice, prebiotic juice, cocktails and many more. The drinks were very refreshing and vibrant, just what I needed after a big treat like that. After eating that much seafood, prebiotic juice is a great consideration to balance things in the our body :p. These juices are some fruits and other ingredients mixed into one resulting healthy drinks.
Honestly, I don't eat crab that often and not into crab too much but Dancing Crab really made and served some finger-licking seafood dishes!
