Tenya - Tempura Tendon Grand Indonesia

Foodglasses Tenya Tempura Tendon

If you think about Japanese food/cuisine, there are a lot of types of Japanese food. From sushi, ramen, shabu-shabu, sukiyaki, grill and many more. One of the most popular dishes in Indonesia in the last few years is rice bowl, also called Donburi. Rice bowl itself divided into several sub-types according to the topping, such as Tendon, Japanese rice bowl topped with Tempura, and this restaurant in Jakarta that I'm going to review specializes in Tendon dishes.

Tenya - Tempura Tendon is Tempura Tendon fast food restaurant originally from Japan (of course). Tenya has opened its second outlet in Grand Indonesia since a few months ago. This outlet has a quite decent space, with both inside and outside tables. The restaurant concept is quite simple, like most of fast food restaurants have but with a little Japanese touch. With yellow, red and blue accents are the dominant ones.
The important thing is it's a quite comfortable place.

To order, go to the cashier and purchase your order, then you'll get a number. Pick a table and wait until the meal is served. The service was fairly quick. The tendon choices here are quite much, if you are not in the mood for tendon, try the set menu.

Chicken Tendon (IDR 45k)
One word for this meal : simple. Yep, A bowl of rice with chicken fillet, sweet potato and bean tempura, how could it be simpler than that? This is the classic and original menu from Tenya. This Chicken Tendon wasn't bad though, despite its 'plain' appearance, the taste blended well in my mouth thanks to the tare sauce. The tare sauce combined a sweet and savory tastes, a perfect match for Japanese cuisine like tempura. The tempura was fresh and the chicken fillet was good and tasty enough.

Chicken & Chorizo Mayo Tendon (IDR 50k)
An upgrade from the Chicken Tendon, in a more modern way. This rice bowl meal consists of chicken fillet and chorizo tempura, sweet corn, kyuri and pour with tare sauce and finally drizzled with mayonaise sauce. The chicken tempura was the same with the Chicken Tendon's. Unfortunately, the chorizo (chicken sausage) tempura wasn't that tasty, a bit less salty. The tempura texture was still smooth and sweet corn and kyuri made the meal looked fresh.

All Star Tendon (IDR 65k)
Finally, one of the most complete rice bowl set, All Star Tendon. This rice bowl is full of bean and corn tempura and various seafood tempura, such as crab stick, salmon, shrimp and squid and of course poured with the tare sauce. YUM! All of the seafood tempura were fresh and delightful. I like salmon tempura the most, the tare sauce flavor dominantly covered the taste but still the salmon flavor oozed out. Meanwhile, I had a bit hard time when eating the squid tempura, it was tough haha.

From these three tendons, I like the All Star Tendon the most, it's the most complete one. Served fresh and not fishy at all. All the tempura were tender (except for the squid) and really brought an authentic feeling.

All of the tendon sets also get a bowl of miso soup each. Plain miso soup but still good and tasty.
One thing that's kinda bothering me is the meals are a bit overpriced. But overall, Tenya really provides decent tendons. The tempura was nice, fried well and crisp.
