Babura Dimsum & Steamboat PIK Jakarta

Foodglasses Babura Dimsum

Last January, I went to Medan to attend an event and at one night after the event, I was taken to Babura Dimsum & Steamboat by my friend. This dimsum restaurant is said to be one of the most famous dimsum in Medan! Two months since that, Babura is now open in PIK, Jakarta! I went there again to try the dimsum again.

When I came inside the restaurant, it really felt like an old-fashioned Chinese family restaurant setting with many big round tables. Babura has two floors to accommodate the customers. The size of the place here is quite fair. Like in Medan, the branch in Jakarta was always packed as well.

One thing that was itching me was the service. I don't know, but it was a bit slow and unresponsive. The food wasn't also served that quick. But nevermind, let's go straight to the menu!

CHINESE TEA (IDR 25k/pot)
Nothing is better to accompany dimsum session other than hot Chinese Tea.

SIOMAY (IDR 22k)
Let's start one of the most classic dish in dimsum cuisines. There were four delicious pieces of Shumai in one serving. The appearance was also classic, with the yellowish skin and red dressing at the top. The taste of the prawn was also nice and really authentic.

SIOMAY CHI CHAI (IDR 22k)
This shumai was wrapped in seaweed with a green pea on the top. This tasted quite the same with the original Shumai but the seaweed wrap made this pretty special. The seaweed flavor really came out and almost thought I just ate sushi! Really fresh as well.

SIOMAY DWI TELUR (IDR 22k)
Another variation of Shumai from Babura Dimsum. This Shumai was filled with double eggs and wrapped in with gooey skin. The eggs were steamed quite well and blended with the shumai filling. A good option if you love egg.

LOBAK GORENG (IDR 22k)
A simple square-cut fried radish. It tasted good and crunchy on the skin, the texture inside was soft and tasted just plain. Nothing special about this though. I considered it just for an opening.

KAKI AYAM (IDR 22k)
Or we also call it ceker ayam. This Kaki Ayam by Babura was just fine and enjoyable. Nothing less, nothing more. The taste was good and it was always a little hassle to deal with the small bones of the feet.

LUMPIA GORENG (IDR 22k)
A nice fried lumpia by Babura Dimsum! Although, the look from outside was a bit standard, but inside it was great! The skin was quite crunchy. The prawn filling was never going to fail, it tasted great!

CHEONG FUN UDANG (IDR 25k)
I am an avid fan of Cheong Fun, so this one was unmissable. The Cheong Fun was cut horizontally, drenched with soy sauce and topped with fried onion and sesame seed. The Cheong Fun was a bit mushy and plain.

NAIWANG PAO (IDR 22k)
This is a pao with salted egg filling inside. I loved the simplicity of the dimsum dish. The pao was soft and plain, yet the salted egg wasn't runny, more to a solid texture, but still had good taste.

CHASIO PAO (IDR 22k)
Almost everyone's favorite. Me myself like this. The red pork beef was really delicious and the taste was perfect, the meat was tender as well. The pao was soft in average. In each bite, I could feel the fluffiness of this Chasio Pao. Nice!

HAKAO UDANG (IDR 28k)
This one is also another must, yes? Juicy shrimp wrapped in soft layer skin. I was very happy with this, it matched my expectation. YUM!

PANGSIT GORENG (IDR 22k)
Yet another first-on-the-order-list. Babura's fried dumplings were nice and enjoyable. The dipping sauce was a bit different with the one that I tried in Medan. The sauce here had lemon scent that was quite noticeable, but unfortunately this wasn't as good as the one in Medan.

SAYAP AYAM PANGGANG (IDR 25k)
If I was asked what would I recommend from Babura, then I would recommend this menu. Chicken wings looked so different here! It was stuffed with chicken meat and egg, then grilled resulting that glazy red skin! The meat was very generous and tender, awesome!
